happiest baby in the world

one of the highlights of the last 2 1/2 years (arden’s life) for me has got to be something that happened this week.  i was putting arden down for her nap, and she suddenly (and sternly) told me, “no, mom. stop singing.”  then she grabbed her toy microphone and proceeded to sing the entire chorus of “leaving on a jet plane” all by herself, in the sweetest tone you could imagine.  i seriously almost shed a tear!  apparently, her early childhood musical education is up to par, exactly where i wanted it to be at this age!  now i am showing her who john denver is….and mama cass….and how to safely eat a ham sandwich without choking….

(i will try to get a video of arden singing to update to this post later….but it may be tough. because while performing is one of her favorite things to do, performing for the camera  is not.)

princess ardenia is the #1 subject of bedtime stories at our house right now.  she is a young, loving and humble princess who loves to walk through the forest and play along winding streams.  her best friends are a cat named ‘kitty coyote’ (thanks to nonna for that name!) and a puppy friend she calls ‘pinky.’  she also has the special ability to converse with the bunnies who live around her castle.  often, she spends her adventures helping a bunny through some type of difficulty, as she is a very nurturing soul.

this past weekend, we told stories about ardenia making the big move from her crib to a ‘real’ bed.  as you can see, the stories mimic what is happening in our little princess’ life.  arden is a very proud princess indeed:

this slightly advanced version of ‘peekaboo’ is arden’s favorite game to play right now,  no less than 30 times a day.  others include hide-and-seek, chase, wrestling, skipping, ballet and dance parties from other various dance genres.  plus, there’s the running-wildly-through-every-store-we-go-to, touching and/or climbing onto every single thing in sight.  arden has truly and fully embraced this age we call 2!

happy halloween!!

arden is dressing as a panda bear this year, because she LOVES pandas, and they are always the first animal we visit whenever we go to the zoo.  can’t you just see the excitement written all over her face?!

(this post was intended to honor labor day, but we were relaxing at the cabin all weekend….oops!)

arden LOVES helping me with chores: wiping off surfaces, cleaning windows, folding laundry, etc.  it’s just some of the evidence of her nurturing, thoughtful personality.  i’m trying to really soak up these sweet memories before the days arrive when she whines about chores, and i have to beg (or pay) her to help!  one chore that she’s helped with since she started walking at 14 months is unloading the silverware from the dishwasher.  on this particular morning, as i went about my unloading routine, she said, “no, mommy. i do it by myself.”  she gently pushed me out of the room, so i grabbed the camera and snickered as she toiled away.

the sweetest part was that after the spoon fell on her toe (and we all know how surprisingly painful that can be!) she insisted on finishing the job.  that’s my litte over-achiever!

thanks, arden, for….umm….helping?
