celebrate good times

happy halloween!!

arden is dressing as a panda bear this year, because she LOVES pandas, and they are always the first animal we visit whenever we go to the zoo.  can’t you just see the excitement written all over her face?!

what do a bunch of (wild) 13-year-old boys at a (wild) bat mitzvah look like when the DJ plays a much-loved (wild) dance song?

THIS!

wow, it’s been over a month since my last post!  i would say i’m surprised, but heck, i’m not, and i bet neither are you!  i am now officially BE-HIND on my blogging.  behind by….a yyyy….okay, i’ll say it, a YEAR.  over a year actually!  and even though i swore i wasn’t going to apologize ever again for being behind in a project which i voluntarily took on and which has no deadline, i just can’t help it today.  to my small but dear, dedicated audience:  i am truly sorry and i promise i will (try to) do better.  things have been a little hectic around here the last few months….more on that later.

now that my pitiful apology is out of the way, i must acknowledge that our 2nd-born (canine) baby, gracie, turned 5 this summer!  time….SIGH….it really does fly.  it seems like just yesterday that jason opened up a crate in the back seat of our car and i spied two little black eyes and a cocked, puggy head peeking at me, and i literally started to SOB.  (and yes, gracie had her infamous ‘confused’ look on her face even as a teeny little puglet!)  i had always told jason i wanted to be surprised with a puppy as a gift one day.  so he snuck from nashville (where we were visiting our equally-pug-obsessed friends) to murfreesboro and back in an afternoon to give me the best 1-year wedding anniversary present i could have imagined.  thanks, honey, for helping me cross that dream off my bucket list.  XOXO

and a very, very happy (belated) birthday to our snuggly little fly-catcher!

photographer-mom guilt finally caught up with me!  i have been happily booked for several photography sessions this spring, but each time i’d wrap a shoot, i’d think, “i really should take more well-planned portraits of arden like these.”  so during the month of april, i aimed to get some frame-worthy portraits of arden in her easter best.

round one took place on cherry road.  anyone living in memphis knows this spot in the middle of audobon park, where the cherry trees bloom beautifully for just one short week each year.  (i have many childhood memories of my sisters and i having our photo taken here around easter time.)  as much as i was determined to get ‘the’ shot, the elements were against us.  it was quite windy, the sun was setting, we were late for a family dinner and arden was in no mood to sit still and say ‘cheese.’  so i got a couple of cute action shots and called it a wrap.

round two took place during a typical walk in our neighborhood one sunny afternoon.  although this is currently one of arden’s favorite activites, she knew something was up since i put her in a frilly outfit, so she put forth her best effort NOT to smile for the camera!  but after watching other kids playing, seeing planes overhead (see picture of arden sitting on brick steps and shouting ‘plane!’) and finding fun sticks and rocks with which to explore, she couldn’t help but warm up and do some smiling.

that’s my pretty little springtime bunny, the best walking buddy i’ve ever had.  XOXO

arden has been obsessed with mardi gras beads since she was about a year old.  and it’s not just that she loves jewelry, although that is true.  she lights up any time she sees beads of any sort now, but nothing holds her interest for a more extended period of time than some good ole mardi gras necklaces.  even the newly regular toddler tantroms may be eventually calmed by breaking out her jewelry box.  and now her love of dressing up in beads has now blossomed into a love for dressing others up.

cheers to you all on this traditional day of debauchery and silliness from arden, her cousin ari, her friend mae and dolly!

hope your halloween weekend was as sweet as it was scary!

5 years ago today, i was waking up and eating breakfast at my parents house, giddy with excitement about GETTING MARRIED!!!!  5 years ago today, the sky was sunny but the temperatures a little warmer.  5 years ago today, our wrinkles were a little less deep.  our lives a little less hectic.  our hopes and dreams just beginning to become reality.  5 years ago today, i stood in a beautiful garden, surrounded by (sweaty) friends and family, and i looked into the eyes of my man and made heartfelt promises that i intend to keep until the day i die.  jason, i am so proud of all we have accomplished together.  and even though we sometimes still feel like those 2 young kids who haven’t quite figured it all out yet, i know that 1 house, 2 dogs, 1 garden, many jobs, multiple professions, awesome vacations, 1 perfectly beautiful daughter and many memories later, we really have come a long way, baby.  i love you more today than ever before.  thank you for being you….my perfect better half.  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
