with all the winter weather we’ve had this year (and by ‘all,’ i mean 3 or 4 days of snow instead of 1), i am already starting to get spring fever.  it is march 1st!  the olympics are over.  the sun has peeked playfully from behind the gray clouds at times lately.  arden is almost big enough to ride in our BOB running stroller, which we can’t wait to use!  i daydream each day about our upcoming vacation to chapel hill for elise’s graduation and then on to the outer banks for a big ole’ family beach trip in may.  time to bring down the bins of summer clothes and start putting the sweaters away….ahem, especially my maternity sweaters!

but today, i decided to post my favorite nature shots from last autumn, to remember a recent time when the weather was cool and crisp but more bearable than the frosty days we’ve had lately.  i often take nature photos, but never really know what to do with them, so i am posting them here!

the first are from amicalola falls near dahlonega, georgia, where my family met up for a weekend retreat last october.  arden took her first ‘hike’ along the amicalola creek watershed, which marks the start of the appalachian trail, and i even ventured further up 470 or so strenuous man-made steps with my dad and elise to see the amazing view of the blue ridge mountains from above the waterfall.  it was worth the huffing and puffing to get to the top!

the last photo is from the dock at our family cabin in heber springs, arkansas.  we haven’t been able to do much fishing there over the last couple of years, due to flooding.  but gosh, it sure is beautiful, and we try to get up there at least twice each year.  give me some margaritas and a few magazines, and i can waste an entire day or more sitting on this dock, watching the little red river s-l-o-w-l-y roll by….
