March 2010

watch out.  i have bunny ears, and i’m not afraid to use ’em.

little mae’s first birthday party was incidentally my first birthday party to shoot as a professional.  it was so much Fun (note the capital F) and felt nothing like work.  i hope i get to shoot another party soon….and i hope they have cupcakes from muddy’s bakery!

happy first birthday, mae!!!!!  and many moooooooooooooore…….

in light of the enormous amount of stress i have felt this week (and really it’s no more stress than usual, but probably has something to do with aunt flo making a surprise visit monday morning, for the first time in 17 months….sorry if that’s too much information for anyone!), i thought i’d share this quote from another blog i read regularly,

“Did you have a nice week? Was it a productive one or do you feel a bit behind? Let’s make a deal. Whether you had a good week or a not-so-good one let’s agree to make this weekend great, okay? Find some time to play with your children, mend a hem, watch a film, paint something pretty, doodle in your journal… but let’s all carve out some time to give something back to ourselves and to be kind and caring to those we love, maybe even a little extra.”

i need reminders every now and then, to carve time in my schedule to “be kind and caring” to myself and others….sad, but true.  i’m gonna try better today, and every day forward.  i guess i can thank the arrival of spring and the anticipation of the easter holiday for the motivation to be ‘reborn’ in my attitude and actions towards others.  and i guess i can thank my sore throat and oncoming cold that my husband and baby seemed to have passed along to me to remind me to be kinder to myself.  (i can’t really complain about the cold, cuz i know i got it from all that face-to-face snuggling and smooching that arden and i have done all week, so it was well-worth the sacrifice.)  all that being said, i hope you have a happy weekend!  i am going to take a nap.

hallelujah, praise the lord.  spring is finally here!  today is a balmy (yes, elise, i correctly used that word!) 70 degrees, partly cloudy – but mostly sunny – and BEAUTIFUL!!! i’ve had a severe case of spring fever for about a month, so i am going to put my positive thinking to work, and claim that the winter weather is gone….for good this time.  before i was fed up with bitter chills, high energy bills and being forced to stay indoors 90 percent of the time, i truly enjoyed the winter.  each time it snowed, i headed out with arden for a brisk walk and to capture the rarity of snow in memphis with my camera.  today, i thought i’d share my favorite winter weather photos, as i head out the door to give a hearty wave to mr. sunshine.

there is another new baby in our hood!  our friends bill and erica gave birth today to a beautiful little bundle: sophie annabelle.  we can’t wait to meet her!

below is their older daughter, maya love, back in november when we all spent a weekend relaxing – and not fishing (boooo….) – in heber springs.  maya is the definition of SWEET.  and BEAUTIFUL.  and PRECIOUS.  she’ll make the best big sister!

i am finally doing it.  jumping into the deep end without my floaties on.  biting into that piece of pie without knowing what the filling is.  falling backwards wearing a blindfold and trusting that my friends will catch me.  launching a PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS!!!

i fell in love in college: not only with jason, but also with photography.  after several courses, years of education and experience as an interior designer during which i learned to take and edit marketing photos, and basically having a camera with me at all outings and occasions over the last 15 years (!), i am ready to take my passion for photography to another level.  i now offer the following services:

  • portrait photography (babies, children, teenagers, families, pets…)
  • maternity and labor photography
  • event photography (children’s birthday parties, anniversaries, baby/wedding showers… or any other type of event, as long as it’s legal!)
  • engagement photos
  • unique and fun ‘photo booths’ (for any event type)

additional information on the following is available upon request at

  • fees for all types of photography (temporarily discounted to assist me in building my portfolio)
  • additional portfolio photographs
  • details about unique labor photography and photo booth services
  • the CD and quantity of photographs you will receive, included with your session fee
  • types of digitally ‘enhanced’ photos available (for a minimal charge)
  • upcharge fees for travel (to nearby locations such as jackson, nashville, little rock)

i believe that no event is too small or insignificant to capture forever with a camera, from the smallest family birthday party – to a girls’ night out – to the day you bring your newborn baby home from the hospital.  my fees will always remain flexible for these unique (and sometimes shorter) sessions.

in the future, i plan to claim an official business name and launch a website with an extended portfolio.  for now, check out these marketing flyers (below).  and, as always, refer to this BLOG (in the ‘snapshots’ category under the ‘organized chaos’ tab to the right) for my best photos.

stay tuned for shots from my first gig yesterday: little mae’s 1st birthday party.  if my laptop charger hadn’t kicked the bucket 2 minutes after uploading the 500 photos I snapped, i would be posting my favorites today!  but alas, you (and i) will have to wait 3-5 days for amazon shipping to deliver my new charger to see the awesome photos….

and awesome they are!
