October 2009

to all you trick-or-treaters out there, have a SPOOKY and SUGAR-filled evening!!!

it is a very rainy morning in memphis.  and i thought the weather guys said it was supposed to be a beautiful partly-cloudy day with a high of 72!  but that’s ok.  i don’t mind the rain so much now that i don’t have to rush thru traffic in it to get to work, but it was especially difficult to get out of bed this morning.  with our new blinds, the bedroom is now a nice and cozy dungeon when it’s raining.  so i was snoozing a bit while jason woke up arden, and when he brought her into the bedroom, i could sense in the dim light her confusion from hearing my voice, but not seeing me.  nothing has ever inspired me to get out of bed so fast at 8 a.m. like a very hungry baby!

this all reminded me of how sleepy arden was during her first month on earth. until she was about a month old, the most exhausting aspect of my day was having to wake her up to eat every three hours.  yes, I had to wake HER up!  (i know many people say, “NEVER wake a sleeping baby.”  but i swear if i didn’t wake her, she would never eat!)  even after finally waking to eat, she then mastered the ‘milk coma’  which  made playtime after a meal a little difficult to accomplish.  ah, to be able to sleep that deeply now….

here are a couple of those sleepy moments with arden.  whether your day is turning out to be rainy like mine, or sunny and warm, or cold and snowy, i hope these vidoes inspire you to ‘snooze’ for a moment or two and enjoy life’s little pleasures today.

you may have seen this photo of arden.  you may have even received it in baby-announcement format in the mail.  i adore this photo because it showcases what i believe were arden’s best newborn features: her huge, round cheeks; her squooshy little arms; her fat wrists next to her wrinkly hands; the dark hair on her head and the long hair that hung over her ears….not to mention her beautiful face.  but achieving this photo was no easy feat!  my first official ‘photo shoot’ of arden took a good dose of patience on my part, and quite a bit of tolerance on hers.  so here, i’d like to share some of the not-so-perfect (and, i think, quite humorous) photos we sifted thru to get the winner above:

what a good girl.  she was so patient with me while i snapped a couple HUNDRED pictures that day!

thank you, dear arden, for inspiring me every day with your stunning beauty and your sweet smile….

mama loves you.

this is one of my favorite videos of arden from her first days in the world.

she is only a little over one week old, and ‘grandfather’ ernie is holding and having a conversation with her.  at this point, none of her hair had fallen out, so you can still see her beautiful dark hairline.  (the hair that fell out is now growing back in a lighter brown shade…and quickly, thank goodness- some of you heard how i feared i had rubbed it all off during a spongebath!)  she shows off her mastery of hiccups (of which a performance is still a daily occurence) and also does her elvis lip ‘trick’ about half-way thru this video.

i cannot believe how much she has grown and changed already….where did my little newborn baby go?

The happy new family of THREE!

The happy new family of THREE!
well…. it took me a while but i am finally posting a blog!  i am quite behind in arden updates, considering she’s 9 1/2 weeks old now!  but at least i am getting started.  my plan is to get caught up with sharing some of her milestone moments from the last 2 months, especially for the out-of-town family and friends, and then (hopefully) post an update about once per week.  (this blog is not solely for news about lil’ miss arden, but i admit that most of my posts will probably include her in some way…. what can i say?  she is the center of our lives right now, after all!)  we hope you all enjoy seeing arden marie as she grows, and learning about the adventures that await jason and me in our busy and, no doubt, exciting future together as parents.
Baby Arden, just minutes old.

Baby Arden, just minutes old. She arrived into the world at 1:11 a.m. on Thursday August 6th, at 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 21 1/2" long.

Mama finally getting to hold Arden, after a VERY long night and day....and yet another night at the hospital.
